THE CAMBORNE & REDRUTH ELECTRIC TRAMWAY By Paddy Bradley
Excellent photo history of a three mile railway that operated from 1902-1934. This tramway hauled both passengers and mineral ore and included several tram special excursions from time to time. The "Pasty Specials" were trams that left Redruth at 12 noon carrying pasties and other food. At points along the route they were picked up and delivered to eagerly awaiting workmen and miners. The "Football Specials" were for passengers to see the rugby matches between the rival towns of Camborne and Redruth. Every morning the "Miners Specials" took men to the mines along the route. Passenger service was suspended in September 1927. The last trams saw some incredible scenes; thousands of people lined the route as if attending a funeral procesion for royalty. Lots of wonderful black and white postcard views of old Redruth and Camborne.
