RICHARD TREVITHICK By James Hodge
Trevithick (1771-1833) was the son of a Cornish mine captain and he single-handedly totally changed the unwieldy steam engines of Newcomen and Watt to efficient prime movers with many applications. Trevithick invented in the process a vast range of widely differing machines, from high-pressure engines to the world's first railway locomotive. His immense physical strength was legendary and his mental energy were used for all types of plans and projects.
