Jim Holman leaves Cornwall in the 19th century to work in the copper mines of Upper Michigan. While this is a novel, it does ring true of what it was like to leave home and start out in a new land as a Cousin Jack. The author drew on personal family history to write this Cornish American classic.
The central character, Holman, spends his first year living in a boarding house with other Cornish miners. A lot of Cornish Wisdom, dialect, humor and commonly shared life experiences. One of the best Cornish-American culture views available. Originally printed in 1941,
now back in print. Soft cover, 6x9, 362 pages, $19.
