CORNWALL'S MINES AND MINERS By George Henwood
These 19TH century studies reveal aspects of daily life in Cornish mines and the communities themselves. These revealing dispatches were first published in the Mining Journal between 1857 and 1859. During these years Henwood was employed as Cornish correspondent of the Journal with the main job of writing detailed intelligence on the conditions of the major mines in Britain for the London mining markets. The clarity and insight of Henwood's writing was bred of a wide and diverse career which had brought him into first-hand contact with every strata of Cornish society. Born in Penryn, he was an educated mine captain with a score of inventions to his credit. At the time of the writings in this book he was living in Wendron. Articles are short and very informative.
